There really seems to be no greater month for Hill than October, 3 wins and a draw thus far with only 1 goal conceded in the month, things are starting to look up for Jay Lovett’s men.

The Hill had fond memories of Gay Dawn Farm as a Charlie Kelly winner last season saw them also come away with a 1-0 victory. In picturesque Kent it was the hosts who had the first opportunity of the contest, the Hoops won themselves a long throw and darted it into the area, a home man got his head to it and flicked it on but it whistled just over Hill debutant Finley Jenkins crossbar. Hill responded straight away with our first attack of the game, the returning Max Miller drove at the Hoop back line and let fly from 25 yards but it was straight down the throat of Daniel Colmer. For whatever reason, the Hillians were slow to get going in this one and in the early parts it was the hosts who were seeing a lot more of the ball and creating more chances. A brilliant move from front to back down the right by the hosts saw them bear down on Jenkins’ goal but a fine save by the Lewes U18 keeper at his near post prevented the deadlock from being broken. That seemed to wake the Hill up as they had a great chance to take the lead themselves moments later. Connor Tighe played the ball to Martyn Box who cut inside onto his weaker right foot but still managed to fire a shot which was arrowing into the top corner but it produced a superb finger tip save by Colmer to tip it over the bar. The Hill managed to muster a flurry of chances as they looked to open the scoring, 2 chances fell to Jeff Duah-Kessie but neither of his shots failed to hit the target as a frustrating first half continued. As the half was drawing to a close, Daniel Colmer managed to produce one more brilliant save to keep it goalless at the break. Hill worked the ball really nicely around the edge of the box and the ball fell to Dan Perry who swung a left boot at it, it took a deflection which looked like it was taking the ball into the bottom corner but Colmer stuck a boot out and diverted it over the crossbar.

Jay Lovett will of had a few choice words to say at HT to get his team going from the get go and it seemed to make a difference. Just 11 minutes into the second 45, the Hillians hit the post. Jeff Duah-Kessie cut inside from the right hand side of the box and fired a shot which looked for all the world to be going in but it smacked the foot of the post and fell into the GKs grateful arms. How the Hillians hadn’t broken the deadlock was a mystery, Kieran Rowe who was outstanding again in the middle of the pitch played a lovely ball through to Martyn Box who crossed the ball in for Jeff, he was unmarked six yards out but he scuffed his left footed effort when it seemed easier to score and once again the ball just fell for Daniel Colmer. Connor Tighe was the next yellow man to have a shot on goal but his powerful low strike was once again kept out by Colmer. The Hillians had dominated the second half but they were prone to being counter attacked, the Hoops burst down the left and got themselves in shooting range but they failed to trouble Finley Jenkins who was mostly a bystander. Finally, in the 66th minute, the Hillians opened the deadlock and it was no surprise who got it. Dan Perry worked tremendously to harass the defender and win a corner out of nothing and that reaped it’s rewards. We played the corner short to Connor Tighe who whipped the perfect ball into the box where it landed on Dan Perry’s head who bulleted his header into the back of the net to give us lift off at the farm. One goal can normally bring you two goals and the Hill carried on attacking, Dan Cadman as he loves to do burst down the left, he cut inside but dragged his right footed effort harmlessly past the post. The Hill had been in full control of the game but with 5 minutes to go, we almost gifted the hosts a leveller. Josh Spinks attempted to nod the ball back to Finley Jenkins but he headed it straight to a Corinthian attacker but thankfully for Hill, the Hoops man failed to control the football and the ball spun away from him and left Hill to smash the ball clear and confirm another 3 vital points for Jay Lovett’s tricky Hillians.

Hillians know how to win and we know how to win 1-0. 3 clean sheets in a row and things are looking up. Dan Perry’s 6th goal of the season confirms another 3 vital points.
