On a beautiful evening on the Surrey/Sussex border, the Hillians made a fantastic start and opened the scoring after 8 minutes, some great work down the right by Josh Luther ended with a teasing cross being played in and Pat Harding got on the end of it to power home. The Hillians took 8 minutes to grab the opener and just 8 more minutes to add a second, with Daniel Uchechi finding a gap in the wall to bend a free kick past the home keeper. Midway through the first half a familiar name in pre-season, Trialist had the opportunity to make it 3 but a fantastic block denied him. We weren’t to be denied a third for very long however, a mix up in the home defence let Josh Luther in and he unselfishly squared for Pat Harding to score his second of the game. Alfold had to wait till the end of the half for their first chance, a bouncing ball wasn’t dealt with by the Hillians back line but the home striker couldn’t keep his shot down.

The second half kept the same trajectory as the first, with the Hill on top. Barely minutes into it, the game’s standout Trialist was very unlucky not to add a fourth as he fired a wicked effort off the underside of the crossbar and away. Alfold also threatened early in the second half, once again the Hill failed to get rid of a bouncing ball but once again the striker failed to hit the target. It was 4-0 to the Hillians in the 54th minute, Alfold gave away a cheap corner and Josh Spinks made them pay by thumping a header in at the far post to tighten our grip on the game. The chances kept on coming, with Jay Lovett rotating his squad with a blend of trialists and youngsters seeing minutes in the second 45. One of the trialists should have made it 5 but he diverted Josh Luther’s cross off target. George Brown looked to add to his 2 goals so far in pre-season but he headed a glorious chance over from a corner. With 10 minutes to go, the Hill were awarded a penalty, Alfold failed to clear a corner and Trialist was upended in the box. Up stepped Max Miller and he buried the penalty to add a fifth goal. The chances kept on coming and Trialist came within millimetres of adding a 6th goal, bending an effort inches wide. The 6th goal did arrive with a minute to spare however, Jordi Ndozid set up Max Miller who took a touch and almost broke the net with his finish. There was almost time for a 7th goal but a fantastic Hillians move, started by Ndozid, ended up with the same man firing straight at the keeper.
