The first big chance of the game fell to the Hillians skipper Jordi Ndozid, some sloppy Barking possession let Ndozid clean through but he couldn’t beat former Hillian James Shaw. It was the men from Sussex who were making all the early running, Max Miller and Ndozid combined to set up Daniel Uchechi but he was also thwarted by Shaw. In the 33rd minute the Hill were rewarded for their good start and in some style. Miller played a smart short corner to the alert Ndozid, he took a touch and curled a sublime effort into the upper echelons leaving Shaw with no chance. We almost doubled our lead minutes later, again we won the ball back high, this time Max Miller thundered a shot inches wide of Barking’s goal. Barking did finally threaten as the half drew to a close however it was a comfortable save for our Trialist goalkeeper.

Jay Lovett’s men started the second half as we finished the first, on top, with Max Miller drawing Shaw into an early save from an acute angle. It was raining shots on the opposition goal as this time Daniel Akinwumni fired wide after good work from the impressive Daniel Uchechi. Burgess Hill got the all important second goal midway through the second half. For the umpteenth time, Barking lost the ball in a bad area, Uchechi the benefactor this time, he slipped in Andrew Herring whose cute dummy left it to Lewis Finney to cooly slot home a second. Into the last 10 minutes in a game played in 30C weather but the Hillians were showing no signs of letting up. Ndozid fired a speculative effort wide just before Lewis Finney curled a free kick inches over. Andrew Herring almost wrapped it up with 2 minutes to go but James Shaw denied him at his near post. Once again our Trialist keeper was virtually a spectator, however in the dying embers he got down sharply to deny a long range fizzer from our hosts in probably their best chance of the game.
