The Hillians came racing out of the blocks, with Reece Williams-Bowers striking the post after just three minutes. It took just six minutes for the deadlock to be broken, as Aaron Smith-Joseph, who was making his 150th appearance in a Hillians shirt, smashed home from inside the six-yard box following an uncleared corner. Just eight minutes later, the Hillians doubled their advantage as Jordi Ndozid tucked away from the penalty spot – won by Louie Downey. The visitors gradually grew into the game, and it took a fantastic block from the rear-end of Harry Pollard to keep Hill’s clean sheet in tact with thirty minutes on the clock. The half-time whistle came with the Hillians in firm control of proceedings.

Struggling to keep up with the intensity of the first half, the second started in much more mellow fashion, but the Hillians remained in complete control. The first real talking point came in the 63rd minute, as Thomas Bruno was given his marching orders following an altercation leading to two quick-fire yellow cards. Exactly ten minutes later, Ware were down to nine. as substitute Tommy Wade was also shown a second yellow for a lunging challenge on Downey. Jay Lovett’s side came close on multiple occasions in the final five minutes, with Josh Spinks first coming close from a corner, and Pat Harding being denied three times by young goalkeeper, Ethan Gannon. The final whistle bought to a close a strong cup performance from the Hillians.
