Jay Lovett’s men were quick out of the blocks, with Josh Spinks’ opening effort zipping narrowly wide of the post. The visitors, who defeated Hill three times last season, went close ten minutes in, as Lauris Chin lashed his effort just high of Alfie Jones’ crossbar. In the 19th minute, Jones was called into action, producing a fine save from a deflected Sports effort to keep the scores level. Just moments later, Jordi Ndozid forced Steve Phillips into his first of many saves – tipping over a long-range strike. Alex Laing was next to try his luck, as he smartly cut inside from the right before forcing Phillips into another decent stop. As the half grew on, the Hillians grip on the match tightened, with Phillips producing two further blocks to deny Aaron Smith-Joseph and Max Miller just before the break.

The pattern of the first half continued into the second, with Hill having the majority of possession and creating all the chances. Eight minutes into the second half, Ndozid almost bagged himself the Goal of the Season award, but his overhead kick dropped agonisingly wide of the far post. In the 56th minute, the home sides pressure was finally rewarded. The impressive Reece Williams-Bowers drove at the visitors’ backline, with his blocked effort falling kindly to Miller – who made no mistake from six yards out. The Hillians made it two in the 67th minute – with Ndozid stealing the show. As the midfielder picked up the ball on the halfway line and shrugged off a couple of challenges before nestling his strike into the bottom corner to put the icing on a scintillating performance from the Hillians number eight. The hosts saw out the final knockings in complete control – capping off a brilliant display under the lights at the More Than Tyres Stadium.

A great performance from Jay Lovett’s men, who kick-start their Isthmian League South East Division campaign with their first three points of the season.

We are back on the road on Saturday afternoon, as we head to the Kent coast to face Whitstable Town.
