The visitors started the game as they finished last Saturday’s meeting – sharply. They were rewarded for their good opening spell, on 21 minutes, as Jack Hopkins headed home from a corner. The Sports didn’t allow the Hillians any way into the game and doubled their lead in the 37th minute, as Kenny Alireu finished off a swift counter attack – leaving the Hillians with a big task ahead of them in the second half.
Simon Wormull’s men came out firing and could have easily halved the deficit – but the visitors held firm. The game became more and more open, with both sides going in search of the third goal. Time was at a premium as the Hillians continued to threaten but to no avail. The Sports remained resolute and booked their place in the next round.
A poor display from the Hillians on a miserable afternoon at the Green Elephants Stadium.
A massive thank you to every single one of you Hillians fans who braved the elements to support the club. You are exactly what Non-League Day is all about!
Next up, another dose of midweek football.
