Ian Chapman named an unchanged side from the one who picked up a valuable point at Folkestone Invicta, last Saturday.

The Hillians started the game the brighter of the two sides, playing some intricate one-touch football in the middle of the park. As expected, the hosts began to grow into the game, utilising the pace of Murrell-Williamson and Zak Joseph. Josh James was called into action midway through the first half, as he did superbly to palm Murrell-Williamson’s effort off target. The Hillians continued to look dangerous on the counter attack, especially through the pace of Kieron Pamment. However, the deadlock was broken by the Beavers, in the 41st minute, as the prolific Chris Dickson headed past Josh James, following Murrell-Williamson’s curling cross.

The late first half goal seemed to have fired up the hosts, who started the second half at 100mph – showing their quality. First, Zak Joseph struck the post from close range, before being thwarted by Josh James just minutes later. The recently introduced, Matthew Whichelow, was the next Hampton man to test the Hillians back-line, but Gary Charman was on hand to block the forward’s effort. In the 62nd minute, the Hillians had a golden opportunity to equalise, when that man Kieron Pamment breezed past two Hampton defenders before cutting the ball back to the on-rushing Ben Pope, who saw his effort somehow deflected over by the shoulder of goalkeeper, Charlie Burns. The hosts breathed a huge sigh of relief, just six minutes later, as Murrell-Williamson produced a beautiful strike to beat the helpless Josh James, to give the Beavers a two goal lead. As the Hillians went in search of a goal of their own, Whichelow caught the Hillians on the break, slotting his curling effort into the far corner.

The defeat sees the Hillians’ Emirates FA Cup journey come to an end, but manager Ian Chapman will be happy with his side’s performance, especially given the quality of the opposition.

The Hillians MOTM was awarded to Kieron Pamment, who caused the Hampton & Richmond defence problems throughout the afternoon, with his blistering pace and continued work rate.
