Our brilliant Women’s squad had to dig deep at a sunny but breezy Palatine Park as Worthing Town showed energy and some excellent skills on the ball. After 37 minutes scoring Hill sensation Brogan Kirk broke the deadlock sending the visitors one nil to the good at HT. As Worthing tired in the 2nd period Hill turned on the style to score another three goals.
In the opening scrimmages it was clear that a fresh breeze was going to interrupt play. Balls being over played into eagerly awaiting keepers’ hands. Worthing settled the quicker looking athletic and dangerous on the attack. They seemed first to the ball in mid field and made great passes out to the channels. On several occasions keeper Evie Herridge had to make smart saves and command the box very well. Hill weathered the storm and got a foothold in the game. Then on 37 mins the League’s top scorer Kirk was given a chance on the edge of the penalty area steering the ball just inside the far post. As the ref blow for HT Hill were lucky to be one nil to the good.
Hill were much brighter in the 2nd half as Manager Tom Clingo shuffled the pack. They stepped up a yard and snapped into tackles. On the hour mark Worthing made an error at the back as they allowed an Alice Horton corner to bounce on the penalty spot. Sub Alicia Haworth was quickest to react smashing home a beauty top corner. The Champagne Moment arrived on 70 mins when youngster Leonie Heath surged down the right to unleash an unstoppable shot across the keeper. The ball nestling in top corner. A quite brilliant way to open your BHTFC account. With time running out Chloe Chesworth scored a 4th.
Huge thanks to Worthing Town for hosting the game and good luck with the rest of the season. You played an excellent game. Also, a word to the excellent officials in the middle and on the line. The Hill backline were excellent in the 1st half keeping that clean sheet. Keeper Evie is awarded the Player of the Match.
As the dust settled, and scores updated Hill travelled home with the news that for the 1st time this season they had moved to the top of Sussex Championship Table. The Title is now very much in their grasp, but they face six ‘cup finals’. The next game in on 23rd March 2025 at home to Woodingdean.
