Burgess Hill Town were knocked out of this seasons Sussex Senior Cup by Brighton & Hove Albion on penalties following a goalless 90 minutes.
The Hillians made four changes from Saturdays 5-3 league win over Deal Town with Alex Malins, Harry Lawson, Chris Whelpdale and Martyn Box coming in for Marcus Allen, Stefan Vukoje Tom Chalaye and Joe Overy.
Hill had the first chance after 20 minutes as the ball drops to Harry Lawson after great work from Chris Whelpdale and Ben Pope but Lawson’s effort is right at the goalkeeper. Pope soon after has a shot well held by Hugo Fisher in the Albion goal.
On 31 minutes a ball comes to the back post where Martyn Box is flying in, he gets his head to it but it’s blocked on the line for the closest chance to breaking the deadlock whilst Alex Malins heads wide from a Box free kick as the half ended goalless.
The second half started with a good chance for Reggie Ward on 51 minutes as a lovely ball over the top sees Ward in behind and he forces a good low stop from Fisher.
At the other end the Hill had a massive let off as a mistake at the back gifts a chance for the Albion but they fire well wide. Soon after Slav Huk made an excellent save to deny the Albion.
There were chances at both ends as Ward had a shot blocked, before Brighton break and Harry Lawson clears off the line.
Hill almost won it as the end but Chalaye smashed his shot at Fisher as the game went to penalties.
The Albion progressed winning the shootout 5-4 to face Whitehawk in the next round. Attention for the Hillians is now back to the league as we face AFC Croydon Athletic at home on Saturday.
