Our exciting U18 squad under joint managers Bertie Oliva and Adie Clayton were in irresistible form last evening at Broadbridge Heath in the Fa Youth Cup. The match was played out on a beautiful looking grass pitch under clear skies. Hints of autumn in evidence as temperatures dipped during the game.

There was no hint of the cascade of goals to come as both sides found little traction in the opening scrimmages. Play was hurried leading to some stray passes.  After 15 mins Hill began to dominate possession firing in two long range efforts which the Heath keeper did well to parry. The keeper was employed again after 18 mins expertly tipping over a rasping 20-yard drive. After 25 mins Hill drove down the left flank and Kai Birchley caressed a wonderful cross along the deck for Charlie Clayton to smash home at the far post.  Hill had to be very patient for the 2nd goal.  As half time approached, they were awarded a free kick some 25 yards from goal. Flecther Fane stepped forward to deliver a stunning strike into the top corner, keeper no chance. That signalled the end of Heath’s determination. With the hosts defence in disarray Dylan Hurst fired home right on the half time whistle.

The 2nd half turned into a one-way procession of wonderful Hillian goals. Noah Hoffman, Kai Birchley and Jake King with 2nd half braces, Sam Sharma also on the scoresheet.

Adie said ‘It was an excellent performance; we were brilliant tonight. They played five at the back which made it hard for us to break down. However, the boys were patient and started to move the ball well. It was only a matter of time before we scored that 1st goal. After that we knew we could go and get the win!’

Congratulations to Adie, Bertie and our U18 squad on a job very well done. That win has set up a highly intriguing and exciting mid-week FA Youth Cup away adventure to Deal Town on 19th September. Its unsure how many fans might travel for that one, but rest assured all connections will be cheering for you. Good luck on the night!
