Burgess Hill Town were full of Bank Holiday cheer as we registered our first three points of the season as we comfortably swept aside ten man Eastbourne Town at the Saffrons 3-0.

Gary Mansell and Jay Lovett made three changes for the game with Alex Malins, Reggie Ward and Dan Perry coming into the starting line up.

The game was four minutes old when the Hillians had their first chance as the hosts don’t clear a corner and it comes to defender Nathan Cooper who smashes just over from 15 yards.

Hillians dominated possession from the off and deservedly took the lead on 13 minutes as the prolific Dan Perry opened his account for the season. It was fantastic football from the Hillians as we counter with speed and Martyn Box cuts inside and whips a tremendous ball which splits the defence and Perry slams home against his former Club.

On 33 minutes the visiting Hillians should have gone 2-0 up. Box drives the Hill forward and slips in Ollie Davies who steadies himself but slots wide when 1 on 1.

Soon after the hosts were reduced to ten men as defender Dan Hull was shown red. The defender made a hash of a clearance and drags Perry by the neck when he was the last man and was given his marching orders soon after as the Hill went in at the break deservedly ahead.

Hillians, who were dominant in the first half even before the sending off, continued where they left off in the second half and continued to create chances. Perry breaks the offside trap and lays it off to Box on 55 minutes and he then fires one into the box and it comes to Ryan Worrall who smashes it just over.

The Hillians were celebrating a second goal soon after as Box drives at the backline. He breezes past them all and sets up Perry who taps in his and our second of the afternoon.

Chances continued for the Hill as a corner was flicked on by Perry and you think someone is going to bundle it in but somehow no one scrambles it in.

Hillians made a triple change with Ben Pope, Alex Brewer and Bobby Price coming on for Dan Perry, Ollie Davies and Kieran Rowe and moments later Brewer was celebrating getting on the scoresheet as Hill scored again.

Two of the subs combined superbly as Pope breaks away and sets it across for Brewer who smashes home to put the game to bed.

Hill had further chances to extend the lead, Brewer speeds away, he cuts it back for Price but he can’t beat ex-Hillian Chris Winterton in Eastbourne’s goal and then Pope, who had been brilliant since coming on, almost heads in a fourth as the Hill headed home with all three points.

All in all was an excellent day for the Hillians who dominated possession throughout to claim our first three points of the season and will also be pleased to keep a clean sheet on the road. The large amount of travelling Hillians fans went home happy and excited for next weekends Emirates FA Cup with AFC Croydon Athletic.
