Burgess Hill Town made it back to back league wins for the first time since October 2022 at a rain soaked Three Bridges as they came away with three points in a five goal thriller and end the hosts unbeaten home league record this season.

Gary Mansell made one change from the fine win over Herne Bay as defender Owen Spicer came in for Martyn Box, who had made his first start since returning from injury just three days before in the victory over Herne Bay.

Spicer joins the Hillians for a spell from Worthing. The central defender has just spent a month on loan at Chichester. Fellow defender Jack Taylor continued at the heart of the defence after seeing his work experience extended for January.

The hosts who are sitting third in the table after a brilliant start to the season took the lead when Kevin Rivera was brought down in the Hillians box. Ibrahim Jalloh, the leagues third top scorer, scored with Taylor Seymour unlucky as he got a hand to it but couldn’t keep it out.

Taylor went on one of his trademark runs forward from defence on 18 minutes but his effort was comfortable for Bridges keeper Jasper Sheik and at the other end Seymour made a good low save and from the resulting corner Noel Leighton, the leagues second top scorer, had a volley smack the bar.

Harry Mills saw a low free kick after Reggie Ward was fouled saved by Sheik and the Hill nearly equalised soon after as Marcel Powell fed Ward who whipped it in, Harry Lawson nodded it down and Noah Hoffman’s flick was cleared off the line by Harvey Woollard.

Hillians were on top and on 34 minutes Powell volleyed a corner back in and it’s arrowing into the bottom corner but Rivera saved. Sheik was again called into action as Ward put one in behind and Perry out-muscled his man and bears down on goal but it’s a good save from Sheik to deny him and preserve Bridges lead going into half time.

The Hill carried on where they left off as Perry headed over following a good delivery from Powell and Mills played a lovely diag to Perry who brings it down and shoots but fires wide as the search for an equaliser continued.

Hillians did have a let off though as a misplaced ball sees Jalloh with an open goal from 25 yards but he rushes it and hits it wide.

On 69 minutes Powell delivered another ball this time to sub Reece Hallard but he just doesn’t get enough on his shot to trouble Sheik and soon after Perry turned provider as he found Powell but somehow the ball trickled wide of the post.

Two crucial minutes then followed as Seymour made a fantastic save to deny Rivera from a Bridges counter attack and within a minute at the other end the Hill equalised as sub Martyn Box was brought down in the box and the same player stepped up and confidently despatched the penalty.

Four minutes later the game had completely turned as the Hill took the lead when Perry pounced to strike home to haunt his former team.

The lead though lasted only a minute as Bridges levelled it up as sub Billy Irving equalised with a diving header.

The game could have gone either way with both sides having chances with Seymour denying Irving but as the game looked like finishing all square as sub Darren Budd sent a looping header into the net from an excellent delivery by Powell to send the large following of away fans wild as the Hill took the points back to Mid Sussex.
