Kieron Pamment gave the Hillians the lead after 22 minutes but Rovers equalised through Aaron Jenkins in the 54th minute. Rob O’Toole netted the winner twenty minutes later in front of a good midweek crowd of 264.
Cox said “It was another close game and I thought some of the football we played in the first half was fantastic. There was great play leading up to our first goal with a brilliant ball in from Boxy and Pammy getting across his man at the back post with a tidy finish!”
“In the second half, the first 15-20 minutes we stopped doing what we had done well, passing and moving and pressing. They got on top and deserved their goal”
“But we showed great character to respond from that albeit a fortuitous goal. The cross from Pammy and Chief getting across his man and getting a touch to direct it goalwards. We showed great resilience in the final 15 minutes and saw the game out. I’m delighted to be in the next round”
The Hillians will now face Erith Town in the preliminary round. They defeated our near neighbours Hassocks 4-0 in their replay last night after also drawing 1-1 on Saturday. The game will be played on Saturday 19th August with a 3pm kick off.
