Burgess Hill Town FC are sad to learn of the passing of former player and manager Andy Marchant.
Andy was a fantastic energetic midfielder who made nearly 300 appearances for the Club. He played for the Hillians from 1974 to 1979 where he who won the Sussex County league division 2 title in 1975 and the division one title in 1976.
In 1979 he became player manager of the Hillians until 1981. In that time he famously masterminded the 1-0 FA Cup win over Crawley Town in 81 as well as lifting the league challenge cup in 1980 with the Hillians defeating Steyning Town 2-0. He did return to playing and played the odd game up until 1983 for the Hill.
He was well renowned in Sussex Football and also played for Brighton, Wimbledon, Southend and Crawley from where he joined us.
