5-3

On a lovely Sunday afternoon on the south coast promised to be on paper a cracker between the Brighton Seagals and Burgess Hill Town women.

First half started and stayed the same way throughout both teams trying to play their football but it was all so frantic, fast and feisty at times. Unfortunately because of this the Seagals took an early lead after just 10 minutes. The floodgates opened for them despite the hillians doing nothing wrong just being outplayed and ending being 5-0 down at halftime. The Hillians were always in the game never looked out of it and had chances especially from the skipper Alice Horton towards the end of the first half.

Second half changes made by Tom Clingo but just changes that needed to be made to get back into the game. The comeback was on just 5 minutes into the second half with the main threat coming down the left with Chloe Chesworth and her great energy and effort lead to Brogan Kirk scoring to send the few Hillian supporters into the sense of Belief, 5-1 the score. With belief from the bench and in the team they started to stretch the game and tire out the hosts.

Which then lead to a 65th goal. Ellie Livingstone calmly put the ball in the back of the net to make it 5-2, the comeback was very on. After this the hillians kept having great chances. Then towards the end of the game the ball fell loose in the box and Ellie Livingstone scored again to make it 5-3 with little left on the clock. Around 10 minutes of added on time at the end of the game, it was all Hill

However the mountain was too steep in the end and Seagals ran out ready winners. The whole team were awarded the Player of the Match award.

Tom Clingo said “I’m really proud of our players, coaching staff and everyone involved at the club.

We were in an absolutely impossible position this weekend and all we could expect from the girls was to give absolutely everything which they did.

Sometimes you have freak periods in games where everything a team touches turns to gold and Seagals had that in the first half. They were very up for the game.

We just have to match the performances levels – particularly in the second half – and we will be just fine. This group are a credit to the club and to women’s football in general.”
