Burgess Hill Women stamped their authority on the Sussex Championship with a thrilling win at the Home Call Carpets Community Stadium. Under a stunning sun set in perfect weather conditions both sides had fans on the edge of their seats. Hawks were compact, well organised and looked very dangerous on occasions. However a Chloe Chesworth thunderbolt on 70 mins turned the game.

A big mid week crowd filed through to create a pulsing atmosphere. Hill started on the front foot attacking down the right. Chesworth reveling in her new role as winger. Brogan Kirk operating down the left. After ten mins a right wing cross broke for Haworth who hit it 1st time. The Hawks keeper making a great save.

This pattern continued throughout an entertaining half. All the while Hawks were happy to hit on the break.

Manager Tom Clingo turned to Megan

Hoare off the bench at HT.

Hill continued to press. Walker had the Hawks keeper at full stretch on 60 mins. Just moments later an almighty scramble left bodies strewn accross the Hawks penalty box. On 68 mins the ref waved away a clear penalty shout.

With 20 mins left on the clock Chesworth broke the dead lock. After a swift move through the middle Chloe let fly from distance the ball nestling top corner. The ground erupted. Just moments later a mistake gave Hoare an easy tap in. For the last ten Hill played title winning football. Crisp pass and move. Kirk smashed the 3rd off the far post.

Hawks contributed to a great game and were rewarded with a last min consultation goal.

Joint Manager Jacob Bennett said ‘its pleasing to be top of the table but there are some tough games to come!’

Thanks to the Hawks for travelling mid week and good luck for the season. Chesworth was the overriding choice for Fans Player of the Match.
