Isthmian Youth League South Thu 6 February The Dripping Pan
Lewes
1
Burgess Hill Town
1
1-1

Under clear Mid Winter skies, mild temperatures and on a gorgeous Dripping Pan surface both sides served up an exciting Isthmiam South league encounter. Two excellent goals punctuated a fierce defensive battle.

The visitors started well kicking towards the club house end. A strong mid field presence allowed the ball to go wide on several occasions. The wingers delivering dangerous crosses which weren’t converted.

On 30 mins Hill were awarded a dangerous free kick 20 yards out. Fletcher Fane then produced a thrilling moment as he hammered his kick into the top corner keeper no chance. Fane is making a habit of scoring brilliant free kicks.

One nil half time.

Lewes played a few yards further up the pitch early in the 2nd which gave the Hill mid field less space to work with. This led to some mis placed passes and running up blind alleys. Indeed Lewes enjoyed possession for periods. On 55 mins they brought the ball forward with purpose and quick one two allowed the striker in on goal to hammer home a deserved equaliser.

Hill went back on the attack desperately trying to get their Isthmian South title bid back on track. There was lots of effort but no way through a dogged Lewes defence.

The spoils shared. One apiece.

Joint Manager Adie Clayton said ‘Its a disappointing result. We were patient with the ball especially 1st half but diddnt create enough clear cut chances!” As to the League campaign ‘it’s going to make winning the title difficult but we will battle to the end!’

Thanks to Lewes for hosting and providing a post match meal. Good luck for the rest of the season. Also thanks to the travelling support. Your presence was appreciated by the whole squad.
