Our new and exciting Women’s team under manager Tom Clingo graced the Homecall with a comprehensive Sussex Challenge Trophy 2nd Round win.  East Preston operate in the top Women’s Sussex division so it was understandable that Clingo was expecting a tough examination. The match played in perfect conditions on a sound grass pitch.

However, his team had read the script and after just a few mins it was clear that the Mid Sussex team were going to hold all the aces.  From the kick off they closed down and allowed no time or space in the middle.  After 10 mins Hill’s quick start paid dividends. A brilliant corner from the right was nodded on to defender Ellie Livingstone. From an angle she got the ball down and powerfully smashed it past the keeper.  Just 10 mins later Hill capitalised on a great start.   The right winger laid the perfect ball inside to Alicia Haworth who took a touch before unleashing an unstoppable shot into the top corner.  That goal galvanised the visitors into their best passage of the game.  They made several dangerous forays down the left and even won a couple of corners.   In truth though Hill were very much on top all over the pitch.

The contest was over early in the 2nd half. A right-wing cross bounced neatly to Livingstone who watched it drop and then volleyed a stunner, keeper no chance, into the top corner.  Midway through the 2nd half Hill were allowed to dominate the midfield battle.  Passes being made at will.  Meg Hoare got on the end of fluent move to sweep home the 4th.   The 5th arrived just moments later as Hoare grabbed a quick brace.  Clingo rang the changes late on with goal sensation Brogan Kirk being introduced. Her and sub Jasmine Ross immediately ran a tiring defence ragged.  Kirk scrapped the cross bar from distance and Ross hit the outside of the far post.

Our Women’s Team are very much part of the current success story which is sweeping through our club. They did everything right on the day with 23 available players. The starting 11 took full responsibility and in truth demonstrated that huge potential for this squad.  We caught up with Managers Clingo and Bennett after the game, an interview you can find on Hillians TV.  Ellie Livingstone scored two great goals from centre back to become the Player of the Match.  We also caught up with her.

While it was great to score five excellent goals it’s with certainty that the Management and team while be very proud of that clean sheet. Its very much part of their mantra!

The team are back in league action at home on 24th November 2pm ko
