The Sussex Open Age Championship league is heating up with Oakwood and Seagals making the early running. However both Hailsham and the Hill are very much in the running lurking mid table having played less games. It was therefore hugley important for both sides to put in 110% effort.
The game was played on a dry grass surface under heavy cloud cover with mild temperatures. A decent and knowledgeable filed into the Beaconsfield.
The action started brightly with Hailsham getting the ball wide and pinging in some delightful crosses. Hill needed to be watchful and alert. On 15 mins Hill broke through the middle but the move was broken up by an illegal challenge. As the free kick came in Megan Hoare stole a march on her defender to strike Hill into the lead.
With the best move of the match Hailsham were level 10 mins later. The striker got the ball down and laid a pinpoint ball wide. The winger sent in a brilliant cross for the striker to bravely head home.
The teams locked one one at the break.
In truth the 2nd half turned into a true mid field battle. Both centre halves were uncompromising in the tackle which ment there was little space and time for fluent play. As both sides ran out of petrol in the closing stages it was fitting that the spoils were shared.
Manager Tom Clingo was very proud of his team suggesting ‘a lot of credit goes to Hailsham who are an excellent team. This feels like a win today’
Many thanks to Hailsham for hosting and good luck for the season. Hill Number 10 Alicia Haworth ran her socks off leading the line well and making some good defensive tackles to become the Player of the Match. In an intense encounter that away point could be vital for Hill come April 25.
Our Women are back at home on 10th November 2pm ko for a league game against Woodingdean.
