Having beaten Worthing Town in the previous round Hill were in no mood to go out of the Sussex Challange Cup on Sunday. The game held extra bite as the Seagals had overturned Hill in a ‘prickly’ Mid Sussex preseason game. Heavy rain fell constantly across Brighton all morning and continued throughout the game.
Hill got on the front foot early not allowing the hosts any room in mid field. Brogan Kirk was first to test the excellent Seagals keeper with a shot from distance. The keeper palming away for a corner. Moments later the Hill left winger got in behind and delivered a brilliant cross which wasn’t converted. Patience was needed as the hosts dug in. It was Kirk again who let fly on 40 mins. The keeper could only parry and Hawarth was on hand to smash home the rebound. The visitors deserved their slender half time lead.
Hill came out for the 2nd half and turned on the style. On a slick and excellent surface they made excellent passes. The second arrived in ugly circumstances but our goal scoring machine Kirk won’t mind a jot. A long free kick was dropped by the Seagals keeper leaving the centre forward to toe poke home from a yard. Hill continued to play excellent football shots raining in. However it was the Seagals who set up a grandstand finish. On 80 mins a long shot cannoned off a post to leave the centre forward to stab home.
In reality Hill were always on top and it was Player of the Match Brogan Kirk who put Hill through with a well hit third.
Huge thanks to the Seagals for hosting at the exciting Withdean Stadium. Your keeper was outstanding today. Good luck for the season. Our Womens team are on the improve both in the League and in Two Cup competitions. They sit next Sunday out but are on the road to Hailsham on 3rd November.
