Many of you will have seen the talented Burgess Hill Town FC U16’s side on the pitch prior to the senior sides Bank Holiday Monday fixture against Three Bridges.
They were parading the Sussex John Davey County Cup which they won a couple of weeks earlier beating AS Eastbourne 4-2 at Lancing’s Culver Road, the HQ of the Sussex Football Association.
The free scoring Under 16’s reached the cup final playing 4 games scoring an incredible 27 goals whilst only conceding just one goal.
Berty Oliva’s side won a thrilling cup final 4-2. In front of a crowd of 189, AS Eastbourne took the lead but the Hillians went in at half time winning 2-1 thanks to goals by Joshua Hebert and Luca Oliva.
Justin Sibanda added a third early in the second half but the two goal didn’t last long as AS Eastbourne got their second of the evening. Luca Oliva restored the two goal advantage when he got his second of the evening to make it 4-2 to complete the scoring.
Following on from Monday we caught up with Berty who spoke of the Cup final and his side “This group of players have been amazing all season. They work incredibly hard every week to be the best they can be in training and in games. This brilliant County Cup win is truly deserved and something they will remember forever. I am so proud of them and the Hillians future looks bright and very exciting. I also want to say a massive thank you to all the Club’s supporters who came along to cheer us to victory.”
Once again well done to everyone connected to the Under 16’s on a superb cup run and victory. They are still in the fight to complete a brilliant treble as they are looking to add the league title and league cup this season. Good luck to Berty and his Under 16’s side for the remainder of the season.
