The U18s winning run came to an end with a 2-1 defeat at Lewes.
In a tight first half with few chances for either side Elliott Dailly made a good save to keep the score at 0-0. The Hillians had a lot of possession and tried to break down a well organised Lewes side but were struggling to create any real chances.
Alex Brewer had the best chance of the half when he ran through in a one v one against the keeper but had his shot saved.
The second half was going a similar way to the first half but Lewes broke the deadlock in the 51st minute with a deflected free kick that Elliott Dailly had no chance of saving. Lewes were now on top and Elliott Dailly in the Hillians goal made a couple of good saves.
Lewes extended their lead on 71 minutes when the Hillians defence failed to win a header and they broke through to slot past Elliott Dailly.
This spurred the young Hillians into life and they started to create chances the other end. Although they were creating chances the Lewes defence was standing firm and they couldn’t find the back of the net until injury time when Joe Overy scored from the edge of the box.
With 8 minutes added on the Hillians kept on pushing for the equaliser but saw 2 headed chances missed and another shot go over the bar.
A draw would have been a fair result but it was a good game between two well matched sides.
