League leaders Ramsgate continued their charge to the title as they defeated Burgess Hill Town, 2-1, at the HomeCall Carpets Community Stadium.

It was a much improved performance for the Hillians in front of an excellent crowd of 620 in a match sponsored

Tahjae Anderson and assistant manager Lewis Taylor were given their first starts of the season and keeper Fin Holter returned in goal. Olly Hamstead returned from injury and went straight back in defence.

The first chance of the game came in just the first minute as Dan Perry found a yard and forced Tom Hadler to tip over. From the resulting corner, Taylor headed over from 6 yards.

Lovely play down the left saw the ball sit up nicely for Anderson on 24 minute. He hits it well but it’s a smart low save from Hadler.

Ramsgate took the lead on the half hour mark with a penalty. They had dominated parts of the play but struggled to break down the Hillians and the leagues top scorer, Joe Taylor, scored his 40th goal of the season when he scored from the spot.

Craig Stone played a long ball over the top of the Hillians midfield on 40 minutes to Joe Turner who flicks the ball on to Jadama who takes a shot which results in a Rams corner.

The lead was doubled on the stroke of half time when Lee Martin played a ball through to Jadama who scored to give the Rams a 2-0 half time lead.

The Hillians came out for the second half with more fight and battle and Perry headed just over in a good chance for the Hill.

On 61 minutes the Hillians got back in the game as skipper Marcus Allen headed a free kick back across goal and Hill’s top scorer Perry volleyed home.

The Rams nearly restored their two goal lead on 81 minutes when Benny Bioletti hit the bar for the visitors but they held on to victory to remain top despite a spirited performance from the Hill.

The Hillians will look to return to winning ways on Tuesday night (19th) when we host Ashford United – kick off 7:30pm.
