Burgess Hill Town progressed through to the 3rd round of the Sussex Transport Cup with a comfortable 4-0 victory over Little Common at the Home Call Carpets Community Stadium.

Manager Dean Cox named a strong line up and included Under 18’s player Joe Overy who impressed throughout the night as well as Harry Lawson who was introduced in the second half and equally impressed.

Hill had early chances as Marcel Powell skipped past three defenders and played it through to Dan Perry, who’s sharp-angled drive scraped past the post after 8 minutes.

Martyn Box gave the Hillians a deserved lead on 22 minutes. His corner reached the head of Nic D’Arienzo, bounced off the crossbar and back to Box’s feet and he struck home with an excellent finish into the left corner.

Seven minutes later and it was 2-0 as the Hillians were in full control. Darren Budd whipped in a beautiful cross straight to Mo Jammeh who slotted the ball home for his first Hillians goal.

Jammeh had another chance on 40 minutes with a long range effort but the Hillians went in at half time comfortably leading 2-0.

The second half carried on in much the same way with the Hillians comfortable throughout as James Shaw in the Hillians goal was rarely troubled.

Marcel Powell made it 3-0 on 60 minutes with another excellent goal to add to his collection. He received the ball in the box, took it round two visiting defenders and placed the ball beautifully into the bottom corner leaving the keeper with no chance.

On 65 minutes Hillians made a double substitution with Harry Lawson and Kieron Pamment entering the action in place of Budd and Perry and four minutes later the scoring was complete.

Box’s corner went directly to skipper Marcus Allen to head home from close range for his first goal in Hillians colours.

Overy continued to torment the Little Common defence going close a couple of times but couldn’t find the back of the net to get the goal he deserved but it was a job well done for Cox’s side whose attention now turns back to league action with a visit to Hythe Town.
