The Hillians had 2 more new faces in the team for this one, with Dave Martin and George Griffiths joining shortly before KO. Both men were handed debuts and Griffiths set up the games first meaningful chance. He spotted the run in behind of captain for the evening, Lewis Finney and picked him out expertly, Finney only had Millers GK Chris Lewington to beat but sadly beat him he could not, firing straight at the visiting stopper. A positive start nonetheless. That didn’t last too long. The Millers won themselves a corner which Barney Williams whipped in and up from the back was Central Defender Kiki Oshilaja to absolutely thunder a free header past a helpless Will Huffer to open the scoring. The Hill looked to hit back quickly, Dan Perry saw an effort blocked before he played the rebound out wide to Kai Brown. Brown cut in from the right but curled a left footed effort over Lewington’s crossbar. Another big chance on the stroke of HT came and passed the Hillians by, Tunji Obembe slipped in Kai Brown but the winger failed to get any power on his effort and Lewington smothered the ball.
HT: 0-1.
The Millers started the second 45 on the front foot looking to maintain their advantage, Ade Adeyemo pinched the ball off Obembe in the midfield before testing out Will Huffer with a fierce strike from 25 yards which the HuffMan was firmly behind. Just 4 minutes into the second half, the visitors had doubled the lead. Adeyemo won the ball off Kieran Rowe and the Millers quickly broke, Adeyemo carried it down the left, breezing past the defence before cutting the ball back, Adam Coombes unselfishly dummied it leaving Daniel Bennett, who had been on the pitch seconds, the easy job of tapping home. Adeyemo was causing the Hill all sorts of problems, he found space 25 yards out but dragged a left footed effort wide of Huffer’s goal as the confidence drained out of Hill. Another chance came and went for the visitors, Adam Coombes heading a right wing cross wide of the post. From a Hillians corner, it was almost 3-0 Millers. They counter attack with such pace and directness, Daniel Bennett led the charge, carrying the ball a long way before playing in Denzel Gayle. Gayle took one touch before arrowing a shot across goal which beat Huffer but thankfully, also beat the post. The chances unfortunately just kept on coming for CVPM. Obembe lost the ball on the edge of his own box and Coombes played Gayle in, he could only find the side netting thankfully for the Hill. Adeyemo was truly leading Hill a merry dance. He sped past Kai Brown on the left before crossing for Denzel Gayle who flung himself at it but missed contact by a matter of inches. The Hillians kept on fighting till the end, Dan Cadman found Lewis Finney in a bit of space, the ball sat up perfectly for Finney and he walloped an effort towards goal which whistled just past the post. In the 77th minute, Adeyemo got his goal which he richly deserved. Daniel Bennett played a nice one two with him, before cutting the ball back where Adeyemo waited to tuck home the game clinching goal. There was even time for one more Millers chance, Adam Coombes tested Huffer out with a free kick which the Hill GK did brilliantly to get down and thwart.
FT: 0-3.
A chastening evening at home for Hill. Beaten by the better team but the lack of fight, desire and willingness will be of more concern to everyone involved.
