Simon Wormull & John Rattle made 8 changes to the side that beat Margate on Saturday afternoon, handing an opportunity to the club’s youngsters to showcase themselves.

The Hillians started slowly in tricky, windy conditions. It wasn’t until the 14th minute that the game saw it’s first chance, with Andre McCollin firing straight at the Bexhill ‘keeper from distance. As the half progressed, the Hillians began to gain a foothold in the game, with Harding and McCollin showing their class. In the 30th minute, Bexhill had a glimpse of a chance, but the shot failed to test Mitch Bromage in the Hillians net. On the stroke of half-time, the Hillians found their opener, as Josh Tuck drove the ball into David Castanho, who’s clever pass found Pat Harding, who make no mistake firing into the bottom corner.

HT 1-0.

The Hillians started the second half much brighter, enjoying large spells of possession. Midway through the half, Henry Watson did well to clear a goal-bound header which had deceived Bromage. The Hillians’ best chance of the half fell to substitute Kieron Dimelow, who cut in from the left hand side, only to see his effort saved smartly by the Bexhill number one. Wormull & Rattle handed debuts to youngsters, Ellis Webster & Josh Bradley. The Hillians saw out the game well, to progress into the Third Round.

FT 1-0.

A solid performance and good run out for players in need of minutes.

The Hillians MOTM was awarded to Pat Harding, who led the line brilliantly in the first half before dropping back into a midfield role in the second – controlling the game.

Thank you to our hosts for their hospitality, and good luck for the rest of the season.
