2 East Grinstead Town

The Development squad travelled to East Grinstead FC on Thursday night looking to build on wins in their opening two fixtures and didn’t disappoint. We started the first ten minutes on the front foot and chances for Tim Cook and Charlie Bennett could have given us an early lead however it was the pacey EGTFC forwards that linked up to break the deadlock on 25min and give them a 1-0 lead. We were struggling to create any clear cut chances in reply and it wasn’t until our wide men Issa and JJ swapped sides did we really threaten, a great run from Issa and cross into the box resulted in Tim heading the equaliser and good work from JJ gave Charlie the chance to put us 2-1 up at the break with a 20yd finish into the bottom corner.

After a positive half time brief the second half started well with Tim causing the EGTFC defence problems and it wasn’t long before he latched onto a through ball and finished well to put us 3-1 up on 50min, soon after JJ pounced in the box to make it 4-1 after 55min and a penalty soon after finished by Charlie gave us a 5-1 cushion after 62min! The opposition were stunned and although they continued to push for a response the back four of Tariq, Billy W, Billy B and Tom stood firm and on the 70th minute we made it 6-1 with Charlie finishing a good cross from Tariq. The score line showed some clinical finishing however EGTFC certainly didn’t give us an easy night and we had to stay focused as they threatened going forward. On 85min once again Tim found space and this time lobbed the keeper with a neat finish to make it 7-1, a good strike from the opposition forward in the last minute made it 7-2 and ended an entertaining game and a welcome all three points.

We now go into a free week due to the u18s playing in FA Youth Cup and we wish them well along with the firsts in FA Cup action this weekend, the Development squad will be on the training ground Tuesday and Thursday in preparation for Shoreham away on Sep 28th.
