On a bright summer Saturday morning with the pitch in excellent condition both teams were in good spirits as we got to see some of our young u23s in action along with a few first team trialists. The game started at a high tempo and Frenford looked a well organised and competitive set up which would challenge our players in all areas. We enjoyed periods of possession in the early stages with Curtis Gayler returning from a long term knee injury and completing a promising first 30min back in competitive football, however it was Frenford who opened the scoring with a well-worked move and finish on 25min 1-0, the lads responded well and we finished the half positively, after 40min a run down the left from JJ resulted in a cross and neat finish from Tim cook to make it 1-1 at the break.
Both sides made changes at the break and the game continued to flow end to end with the pitch encouraging a passing game. A quality finish from our No10 Issa made it 2-1 on 60min but Frenford equalised soon after 2-2 and both sides were pushing for a winner, after good work from Charlie Townsend his cross deflected into the corner and put us back in front with 10min remaining 3-2 but a last gasp opportunist effort from the Frenford midfielder sailed over young Mitch in goals head and the final score was a friendly 3-3. Credit to both sides the game was played in a great spirit and proved to be a workout that hopefully benefited preseason preparations for both managers. We wish Frenford well for their league campaign and look forward to our next friendly with optimism and encouragement.
