The Hillians approached this game with confidence after winning their previous 4 cup games plus their league game against Bexhill Res whilst being aware that Bexhill had been improving of late.
In the 1st half Jade Chapman went close putting the Hillians ahead very early on whilst Bexhill nearly went ahead after 15 mins when following a corner the headed ball rebounded off the crossbar . The Hillians played arguably the better football but perhaps their “shooting boots” had been forgotten . Lotti Pollendine , making her “league debut” since her return to the Club thought she had scored in the dying minutes of the half , but was adjudged to have been offside
The 2nd half saw Bexhill making the Hillians defence work hard but midway through the half Penny Gittins unleashed an unstoppable drive from outside the area to put Hillians ahead . Hillians joy was short lived as within a minute Bexhill drew level , a high ball being out of keeper Ella Bates’ reach. Showing their typical “never say die” spirit within a minute or so Pollendine scored from close range to put her team ahead.
With Bexhill concentrating on securing an equaliser , and the Hillians having more chances goals could have been scored at either end, and keeper Bates bravely came out the claim the ball when danger threatened to keep her team ahead .
Bexhill nominated forward Charlie Law as Hillians “player of the match” in a game where once again the whole teams commitment was never in doubt
