Hillians Take a Point Away From Harlow
Ian Chapman’s Hillians snatched a late equaliser to bring back a well-deserved point from Harlow Town FC. It was partially a bit of ‘payback’ on the Essex side who had taken all three points from the Green Elephants Stadium nine days earlier with a last minute header.
The Hillians couldn’t have started better when Sam Fisk met a Jack Brivio free kick and Tyrell Richardson -Brown finished from short range after two minutes. The away team could count themselves unlucky when Jack Brivio’s goal-bound effort looked to have hit the hand of a home defender but the referee waved play on.
Smith-Joseph and Rodrigues were causing the home defence all sorts of problems and another borderline decision by the assistant denied Rodrigues’ deft finish to be ruled out for offside.
The home team were always a threat with their direct style and Hillians paid the price for not dealing with another long throw that saw Jared Small convert at the back post.
The home side made two substitutions at the start of the second half and were the better side for long periods of it. A Redwood block early on kept the Hillians in the game but they finally succumbed to another long throw that found Craig Pope unmarked at the back post for an easy tap-in make it 2-1.
Ian Chapman made two positive substitutions with Lee and Pat Harding replacing Brivio and Rodrigues. It was the former’s in-swinging corner that was met by an unmarked Hazet that grabbed the equaliser.
In the end, it was a well-deserved point and the Hillians now travel to Kingstonian FC on Monday.
