Burgess Hill began their pre-season with a win away to Lancing FC on Saturday. Goals from Lee Harding and Tyroll Richardson-Brown were enough to give the Hillians the victory, despite the opposition pulling one back.
It was a promising performance from a young Hillians side. The players looked fit and the passing was crisp and accurate.
Several of the squad had featured in a Trialists vs Youth Team match in the morning at Hurstpierpoint College.
The game featured a familiar face in former Hillians defender Danny Gainsford. Unfortunately, for him, the Lancing defender was substituted after only twenty minutes after he was left worse for wear due to a late challenge on Callum Overton.
It was Burgess Hill with all the early opportunities as the Lancing keeper pulled off multiple impressive saves to keep out the Hillians attack. Eventually, after half an hour a superb pass from Dan Pearse split the Lancing defence open, allowing Lee Harding to finish underneath the keeper.
Ian Chapman made six substitutions at half time and this paid dividends as young forward Tyroll Richardson-Brown combined with Cam Wiltshire to double the visitors lead.
Only a consolation goal from Lee Donaldson could spoil the Hillians afternoon. Ian Chapman will hope to build on from this good start next Saturday away to Whitehawk.
