Just under two weeks since their last game, the Hillians entertained Brightlingsea Regent on a chilly afternoon at the Green Elephants Stadium. Ian Chapman rotated his squad with Sam Fisk, Connor Tighe, and Lee Harding all returning to the starting eleven, and a home debut was given to Hafeez Sanusi.
The Hillians had an early hand ball shout waved away, after Connor Tighe’s strike looked to have struck the hand of Josh Gould. The visitors found themselves one goal to the good, when in the 8th minute, forward Aaron Condon turned Tom Cadman before firing past James Shaw, into the top corner from just inside the 18 yard box. The Hillians continued to grow into the game, with both Tighe & Taylor coming close from dead ball situations, but neither managed to trouble James Bradbrook in the Brighlingsea goal.
Ian Chapman introduced Aaron Smith-Joseph early in the second half for Cadman, and the wide man instantly caused visitors problems. The pace of Ibrahim Forfana was introduced for the Rodrigues, and he nearly levelled the score with his first touch of the game – but his deft chip failed to find its way over the head of Bradbrook, and was saved comfortably. The visitors doubled their lead in the 71st minute, when Forfana was dispossessed by Jake Turner, who’s curling right footed effort nestled into the bottom left corner. The Hillians were thrown a lifeline on the 77th minute, when James Richmond scrambled home from a corner, Recent signing Josh Greanleafe, formally of Lowestoft Town, was introduced with 10 minutes remaining, however the Hillians were unable to gain a point out of game – that on another day would have been their just reward for an honest hardworking performance.FT 1-2.
A big thanks to all our supporters who came along to support the team on a bitterly cold afternoon.
