With the weather forecast of concern and the cup game postponed the previous week the Hillians decided to play on Hassocks Sports Centre 3G to avoid the game being switched to Carshalton.
Having won the Chairman’s Cup last season the Hillians were determined to do all they could to retain the trophy and prepared well with a midweek friendly v Saltdean to retain match fitness.
Early indications were good with Jade Chapman going close in several attacks whilst Lotti Pollendine , playing her first game since returning to the Club added a new dimension up front , and it was good to see striker Keeley Wheatley contributing and showing she hs recovered from as lengthy absence due to injury Jade Chapmans many corners gave chances to take the lead but despite being mostly in control half time was reached with no goals being scored.
The 2nd half saw Carshalton coming more into the game but the back 3 of Hayley Nash , Hannah Harvey Ellie Card , with Nia Hall and Jess Saunders as wing backs in front of the confident Becci Wilson in goal were equal to the challenge . A free kick from 30 yds out by Nash enabled Capt Sadie Ashby to put Hillians ahead within 10 mins.
Keeper Wilson did well to divert a fierce drive from a Carshalton free kick for a corner , and resolute defending prevented the score being levelled from the resulting corner.
Midway throuh the half Ashby added a 2nd and in the dying minutes of the game Nash scored from close range following a Jess Gray corner.
The only aspect which spoilt the day was seeing Mel Cooke going to A&E with suspected ligament or tendon problems following an excruciating injury on the pitch.
In the semifinal on March 4th Hillians are at home to Faversham Strike Force where another determined display could see them in another final.
