After Saturday’s valiant win at Tonbridge Angels, the Hillians took on Saltdean United in the Sussex Senior Trophy, making largescale changes. The first half was a poor one, with neither side really able to get a hold of the game, with the wet and windy conditions really playing a factor. Hillians centre back and assistant manager Stuart Tuck earned himself a yellow card on 15 minutes, probably the only notable moment of the first half an hour. However, Tuck was to earn his second yellow card and receive marching orders on 42 minutes, as he gave away a penalty. Former Hillians man Rob O’Toole slotted home the penalty, and the Hillians trailed at the break. With the Hillians down to 10 in the second half it was always going to be an uphill battle. The game was put to bed on 66 minutes after O’Toole’s strike managed to wriggle under goalkeeper James Shaw. As the game died out Saltdean sat back and absorbed the Hillians pressure. Notable performances from Ibrahim Diallo and James Richmond, who defended well for 90 minutes. The Hillians return to league action on Saturday away at Hendon.
