Burgess Hill Town were defeated 3-1 away to Lewes in their final pre-season friendly on Friday night.
Reflecting after the game, manager Ian Chapman said:
“Well, that’s the pre season friendlies finished. I feel we have had some really competitive games.
“Last nights game at Lewes saw us play some of the best football we have played all pre-season for 35 mins. But in the 2nd half, we were poor. With the amount of possession and chances we had, we should have had the game won by half time! To concede on half time, it seemed to knock our confidence. It’s something we can’t allow to happen this season.
“We did make changes in the 2nd half that impacted on our rhythm, but I was disappointed. I’ve said all pre season, it’s all about being ready for the 12th August, and I do feel there are loads of positive. We have some really decent players, but they need to realise and understand, they can and must do better.
“Back to this week – as always, we will work hard in training (Tuesday and Thursday) on the things we need to, and we are looking ahead to the start of the new season on Saturday.”
