The Hillians Ladies faced a tough task when they were drawn against Div 1[W] leaders Milford & Witley in the semifinal of the Chairman’s Cup on Sunday 5th March.
Milford has an excellent home record on their sloping pitch, having failed to win just once in their League games, and having beaten Chichester City Development away in the previous round who could have been considered favourites to reach the final.
Manager Mark Bishop prepared his team well during their midweek training and they all knew that nothing less than 100% effort and commitment would suffice.
The Hillians went ahead midway through the 1st half when a well-struck cross from Captain Shannon “Rocky” McFadden was calmly headed home by recent signing and youngest outfield player Nia Hall for her 1st goal for the club in her 3rd competitive game.
Hillians top goal scorer Keeley Wheatley’s shot just inside the post following determined work in the goal area with 5 mins of the half remaining enabled her team to go 2-0 ahead.
Milford reduced the deficit within a minute of the restart but a determined “never say die” attitude by the whole squad, spurred on by both the vocal encouragement of their Manager Mark Bishop, men’s Manager “Chappers” and their faithful supporters, enabled them to see out a nail-biting half to reach the Cup final where they play Cray Valley on April 23rd in Maidstone
The photo shows the squad before the game as they plan to celebrate Chairman Peter Hickman’s 82nd birthday with a win.
